| History of the Mace |
The Parliament of Singapore Mace represents the authority of the Speaker of Parliament of Singapore.
At the beginning of each Parliament sitting, the Serjeant-at-Arms carries the Mace and precedes the Speaker when they enter the Parliament Chamber.
For the duration of every Parliament sitting, the Mace is placed at the Table of the House. This traces the rich tradition, history and symbolism of the Mace.
| The Singapore Parliamentary system, like many former British colonies when they became independent, adopted the Parliamentary practices of the British House of Commons or the British Westminster model.
